Course Description:
The goal of this course is to provide learners with lecture and learning activities that will lead to an understanding of basic information about subsidized housing, specifically the public housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs. This includes recognizing key relationships, HUD references, and program documents, the housing process in each program, fair housing and civil rights responsibilities, preparing for success as a housing professional, and PHAS and SEMAP performance indicators. Duration: 5 Hours.

Any new housing agency employee, housing specialists, inspectors, and support staff.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recall basic program information for Public Housing (PH) and the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program

  • Identify the phases of the housing process in the public housing and HCV programs
  • Recognize the PHA’s civil rights and fair housing responsibilities, including the principles of reasonable accommodation
  • Recall how to prepare for success as a housing professional
  • Identify key indicators under the public housing assessment system (PHAS)
  • Identify key indicators under the Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP)
